Excellent visual based learning

This is an excellent book for those who are keen on visual based learning. It is not an adequate substitute for a text or a proper atlas, but it's great for just before the test sorta crammin'. I studied under Whitaker, and he is by far one of the best Anatomical teachers I have ever seen as far as graphically based learning/teaching is concerned. If you're reading this Dr. Whitaker, publish more of the sketches you use during lectures! None of the diagrams actually look directly like their anatomical representatives, but that's irrelevant. The main emphasis is on connections and relationships, as opposed to direct identification. A must have! It's so good that I've already had two copies stolen from me! Obviously, it's a big hit with other students as well...

Great for cranial nerves

I started using this book when we started the head and neck section in my anatomy class and I was hooked. To learn the cranial nerves it was the best. I memorized the pathways of each nerve and was completely set for the exam. I even refer to it now once in a while in my neuroanatomy course. I wish I would have used it through the entire course because it has some great sections on the arteries and nerves to simplify things and it's great to find a condensed resource where you can see all the muscles a particular nerve innervates. Also, the muscle charts were great as a review before the NBME subject test. I know that I will continue to use this book for a long time after first year.

This is a great book for quick reference. I use it A LOT when trying to visualize the path a specific artery or nerve runs. It is a great reference for diagramming things. I find I learn best when I draw things out -- this book helps you get the basics down.

Great for review! Used it in conjunction with an online training system and it helped tremendously to compartmentalize what seemed to be an abundance of info to digest in a much easier fashion. In my opinion should not be seen as a book that will get you past the certification test alone, but definitively another weapon in the arsenal.

About the Author

Tom Shakespeare is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Sociology at the University of East Anglia, UK. This book does an excellent job of categorizing the major models of disability and explains the interconnections, similarities, and differences among them, as well as the significant writers associated with each. Shakespeare also offers excellent critique of the various models. A very helpful starting point to understanding the various positions taken by disability theorists and activists.

Great book about Ed Mell that showcases his work

This is a wonderful book showcasing lots of beautiful paintings by Arizona artist Ed Mell. He is hugely talented and his painting style is vibrant and masterful. The text includes information about Ed Mell's entire life and his art career up until 1996, when the book was published. Highly recommended if you like art inspired by Arizona and the American Southwest.

"Was Blind But Now I SEE...."

For all the "wounded healers" who end up working and standing by the bedsides of the sick and the broken, this book is incredibly valuable.

This book is a first-person account by a man who was blinded and burned in a horrible automobile accident

It talks about staying in the moment with another person. I used to work in oncology and it took me awhile to finally figure out my mission was not to "help" anyone, but just to be in the present with them. From there, the two of you can face what needs to be faced and do what needs to be done.

This book is a first-person account by a man who was blinded and burned in a horrible automobile accident. His well-written descriptions of how it felt to be in the dark while health care workers, family and friends were trying their level best to do the right thing.

This is a book that every social worker and hospital workers needs to keep close by.

Making a difference for patients and professionals in health care

This is a great and inspiring book. I buy this book for all my newly graduated RN's for my unit and any new RN's who come to my unit. I feel passionate about this book as it reveals a true story from the patient perspective. It not only is great for health care workers, it is great for our own personal recovery and realizing the difference we each make in our own lives and that of others. It is a touching story, and an easy read. I believe that any nurse manager should read this and buy this for their employees. It really should be required reading in schools for all health care and medical professionals.
