Recomiendo este gran libro por el enorme valor de su contenido el cual me ha dado poderosas herramientas para ser millonario. Entendi por que no he logrado generar riqueza abundante, retenerla y multiplicarla para que trabaje a mi favor. Lo único que no me ha gustado es el uso de modismos los cuales a veces no me permitia entender con la claridad que me hubiera gustado.

This book changed my life

I was raised in the Christian religion, but stopped attending church at age 13. In the last ten years, I've read lots of spirituality books--mainly Buddhist or Buddhist-inspired--by Pema Chodron, Caroline Myss, Thich Nhat Hanh, Natalie Goldberg, and others. I usually shy away from "Christian" books, but Seeding Your Soul is so much more than that, perhaps because the author is trained in Aikido and seems also Buddhist-inspired.

The book begins with a consideration of trust, illustrated by an unforgettable story of the author's casually religious Italian father and the astonishingly bountiful vegetable garden his deep and loving trust produced in a formerly empty lot behind his tailor shop. Similarly, his joyful wonder whether "there is a tree in here (in the pit of a peach he's just eaten)" yields, after he casually tosses the pit into their back yard, a peach tree that in later years bears fruit. There is no simpler, clearer illustration of the power of being open to wonder and trust.

Each chapter has a similarly striking story to illustrate the author's considerations of generosity, love, transformation, forgiveness, and healing. Chapters subtly build on the ones before them. The exercises at each chapter's end are short, doable, and very much too the point. Usually I skip exercises, but I did all of these, maybe because they didn't demand a huge chunk of time, but could easily be folded into my life. Bit by bit, I found myself moving with the author toward healing, the final chapter. I have gone through the book twice, and both times it took me further in growth, in different areas. I plan to read it again and again. The process is gentle, sometimes humorous, and always loving. I have already enjoyed many of the suggestions for further reading (books) and viewing (movies) that end each chapter--these extend the growth I've experienced in thoughtful and even fun ways.

I have bought copies of Seeding Your Soul for all my friends. It's a great "gift" book, gorgeously produced and a delight to hold and thumb through. The photographs and their captions draw you into the experience, opening you to each step. This book has brought me back to a deep respect for Christianity's teachings, something that had been drummed out of me by a strict, conservative and fundamentalist religious upbringing.

I can't wait for Dianne Costanzo's next book. She is a gifted writer and a spiritual teacher to watch.

Theory to Meaningful Practice

In terms of scholarly research and analysis, Joan Wink's Critical Pedagogy: Notes from the REAL WORLD has been insightful and interesting. Why? Because Wink's account isn't pure scientific theory, it's a book that tells us something about ourselves. It tells us where we come from, what we've been through, and where we're going. More importantly, it tells us something about the people we are and the people we want to become. While I was reading this book, it struck me that the term `marginalize' is very real and evident in the world around us. To marginalize "is to place someone or something on the fringes, on the margins of power" Wink states. I am reminded of this on a daily basis as decisions are made impacting our lives, and children's lives. Joan Wink has taken many theoretical aspects of critical pedagogy and written about them in comprehensible language. As one reads through the vignettes, it will be sure to trigger ideas in every individual's experience. Wink's book demonstrates the reality that very complex intricate theoretical ideas which academic language often excludes understandable meaning as one trudges through definitions can indeed be fascinating. However, I do want to add a word of caution about this book. It's obvious that Wink idolizes the idea of education and giving equal access to all students, (and so do I), and is courageous enough to point out how hegemonic principles are manifested. Once you read it, you will be faced with examining your own prejudices and stereotypes. Beware, as it takes courage to name and change Not all folks are up to the challenge! I highly recommend this book. Wink keeps your attention from start to end, and I am looking forward to her next book. Great work!

"Say what you mean; mean what you say"

In chapter two of the book, Wink tells her readers that someone criticized/challenged Joan by telling her to “say what you mean, and mean what you say.” And so Wnk tells her readers that is the goal of this book. She wants to simplify, but not be too simplistic. She wants to clarify, but not trivialize. I want to say right from the outset that I actually really liked the book overall. I think the stories that she tells, her experience as a teacher seems very valuable and I found myself really, really liking the examples she gave about her classroom experiences like with “the Benson kids” and her early writing classes where she just totally ditched the workbooks after reading Hooked on Books and when she describes all the bilingual environments she loves working with – I loved all of that. But I will be mostly critiquing through this review because I do not feel she achieved her goal in trying to say what she means – the book was neither simple nor simplistic, it was complicated. There was plenty of triviality, not enough clarification.

Wink often makes a very important point that she doesn’t want to necessarily define “criticial pedagogy” explicitly. “Please, please, please don’t memorize these definitions. Please please please don’t fall into the jargon pit. Definitions have value only if the reader sits, reads, reflects, connects, and muses on them.” To which I completely agree! This is great, but please, please, please, Joan Wink, don’t make things harder for us than they need to be. Definitions are also great because they help people establish a basic sense of “ok, what are we talking about here?” In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with jargon, especially if you’re writing a text to be used in classrooms. Assert clearly, and leave it up to the reader and the class to discuss your assertions. As an example, she starts describing ‘codificiation’: “the concept, captured on paper, in the dirt, on the chalkboard, on the wall. It is the thought, painted. It is the symbol, symbolized.” The symbol, symbolized? That just doesn’t help anybody, and this type of thing is very much Wink’s style, unfortunately. Or another example from the book: “Let me share with you some definitions [of critical pedagogy] that came from students who have finished their undergraduate work…:

A state of mind, a place of reference
A framework from which to build
A questioning frame of mind
It makes us double-check our action and the action of others
It makes me do the best I can
…
I’m sorry, but these are not definitions of critical pedagogy and only makes things more confusing when trying to help readers define critical pedagogy for themselves. To illustrate, let me give a comparison. I like a certain subject called “permaculture.” You may ask for a definition. If I replied, “It’s a state of mind, a place of reference, a framework from which to build, and it’s something that makes us double-check our action and the action of others. That’s a good idea of what permaculture is. Now you define it.” I expect you would have no idea what I was really talking about, and certainly have a difficult time coming up with a definition of your own after hearing that.

To make things more complicated, Wink seems to spend a lot more time praising the field of critical pedagogy (as described above) and its authors than actually assert definitions for fear of being “trivial” or “simplistic.” Yet twice she feels the need to tell her readers that while reading Giroux “the words on the pages were vibrating as I read.” I love permaculture. Joan Wink loves critical pedagogy. But no one’s going to learn about either subject if we just praise the terms and likewise praise the specialists in the field. Again, this isn’t to discredit Joan Wink’s work or even this book. From the stories and examples and her breadth of reading, I have no doubt that she’s a tremendous teacher. But I also feel like someone needs to just tell Ms. Wink “you know what you’re talking about. But it’d also be great for you to get over your phobia of jargon and write a book that sounds like you know what you’re talking about.”

A must read for every teacher AND parent!!!

The best book I've read this year! Dr. Wink has delivered a remarkable book. She takes the often abstract and academic-ese of critical pedagogy and theory and makes the ideas understandable and, even more importantly, applicable to real-life. This book is a timely treasure. I couldn't put it down. Teachers who want to know how to create classes of dynamic thought, learning, and growing, this book will provide concrete ideas and strategies. Parents interested in learning how to create the best possible learning situations for your child will love this book. I was impressed with Dr. Wink's research and her ability to make such tough ideas so readable through the use of vignettes and examples. In today's politcal climate surrounding education, this book is a powerful tool in understanding not only the historical context, but the underlying politics surrounding the rhetoric. Thanks, Dr. Wink!

This book was great!

If you want an informative and interesting book for speaking with the dead and communicating with them, this is it! I already knew some of the stuff in this book but it offered very detailed instructions for beginner spirit communicators and experienced alike.

I was trying a way to keep myself in touch with my lovely daddy. I haven't see any ghost or something like that but I can see this book has opened my mind. I have used some techiques that really worked for me.
It is a good book to open your mind and make you easily understand how you can communicate with Spirit.

Speak With the Dead: Seven Methods for Spirit Communication, is actually a new name for the old book, "Contact The Other Side: seven methods...... Not sure if it is page for page the same material.

Konstantinos put everything here in a format to help someone who has never seen a ghost or had evidence of one appear begin to notice the subtle traces around them. Slowly but surely if you stick with the books methods until you notice them work you are sure to learn alot more about the afterlife, LIFE ITSELF, and ghosts. Their not the hollywood entertainment you are used to seeing... so it's not for those who want to be like "Ghostbusters" chasing spirts. But for those who want to study, I don't know of a better book.

Easiest method in this book is the feedback loop with a webcam. I had some interesting results with this as I got down into the method. I still have not tried some of these methods but most are work very well.

Konstantinos is very true in his writings. I can't think of a better person to write these techniques in the way he does.

Not since Miles and Huberman (1995) have we had such an insightful, original discussion of qualitative data analysis as we have here by Kuckartz. �Kuckartz's approach is both tangible and concrete, filled with practical phases in the qualitative text analysis process. �His three types of text analysis – thematic, evaluative, and type-building – provide useful options for analysis that I will recommend to my students. �When he links text analysis to qualitative computer analysis he brings qualitative research into the digital age, something that Miles and Huberman could not have done in the 1990s. �This fine volume on qualitative text analysis should be read by all students – both novice and experienced – of qualitative research. How a Basic Book Came to Provide Cutting Edge Tools

The economics of power systems differs from that of other markets in appearance and in reality. But appearances deceive and produce false new economic theories—e.g., competitive pricing cannot pay the cost of power plants. The real differences lie hidden and allow a blind faith that "the market" will solve all problems—e.g., provide a reliable level of generation capacity.

I began the book knowing that much of this confusion could be cleared up by stripping away apparent differences to show that power markets usually work like normal markets. Economics does not need re-writing, only careful application. But power systems present some genuine puzzles.

Applying basic economics to apparent differences leads to familiar results. I have presented these results simply along with examples for the uninitiated. The same approach leads to surprising results when applied to real differences. For example, the demand side of today’s power markets is quantitatively so different from standard text-book markets that it produces an unusual type of market failure. Part 2 of the book reveals how the lack of coordination between engineers and regulators, in controlling this failure, produces the headline-grabbing price spikes characteristic of current markets.

Part 3 analyzes day-ahead and real-time markets but also asks fundamental questions about the need for complex pools. Are their calculations subverted by the bids of speculators? Observations of Eastern pools suggest power-market design is still in its early stages. This book provides a simple yet solid foundation, diagnoses the problems that now threaten the existence of deregulated markets, and provides tools to help make repairs.

A disappointing book for economists...

... or those wishing to see what economists really have to offer regarding power systems. Stoft's technical discussion of power markets, or locational pricing, mechanisms is just fine. But he offers nothing about the economics of electricity transmission, without which spatially diverse power markets are merely a theory. As such, his book is of no particular use to those looking to understand the economic issues that bedevil large power markets, like those in the US, where persistent transmission constraints can impair the functioning of the best "market architecture."
"Economics" is a loosely-used term in electricity market circles. Those wishing to understand the economic princiles behind power markets, as opposed to the mechanics of power systems, will have to look elsewhere.

If you don't know power system or economics, don't expect you can build up a solid background by reading this book.
