About the Author
David Grant worked for 8 years with the International House in France, Spain, and England, as a teacher, teacher trainer, and Director of Studies. In 1990 he moved to Nantebs in the west of France, where he opened his own private training organization, International Language Services. Robert McLarty has been involved in Business English teaching since 1979. He is a teacher and teacher trainer, and has run a number of RSA Diploma and teacher-training courses. From 1986 to 1997, Robert was the Director of ILC Paris. In 1998 he moved to Oxford to run OISE Oxford and in 2004 he joined Oxford University Press ELT Division as Publishing Manager, Business English.

Baje 15 kilos en 5 meses.

Cuando vi las fotos de las transformaciones f�sicas que presume el anuncio del libro en una revista pens�...esto tiene que ser solo un truco publicitario. Estuve viendo el anuncio, todos los d�as, por cerca de un mes pregunt�ndome si ser�a posible. Un buen d�a me decid� a comprar el libro. Me encanta leer…as� que pens�: “Al menos aprender� algo nuevo”. El libro tiene muchas m�s fotograf�as. A veces esas fotos, de transformaciones incre�bles, en lugar de motivar espantan. El libro explica paso a paso el porque es que la t�cnica que utiliza funciona. Pregunte a un amigo cient�fico que checara las partes en las que el libro menciona como funciona el cuerpo ante las dietas y los ejercicios y le pareci� bastante correcto. En aquel entonces no hab�a tantas revisiones de libros en internet as� que no pude verificar esa parte.
El programa contempla 6 comidas peque�as al d�a, 45 minutos de pesas 3 veces a la semana y 20 minutos de Cardio otros 3 d�as. El s�ptimo d�a se descansa y se puede comer lo que uno quiera. Y quiero decir…”Lo que uno quiera”. Puede uno desayunar, comer y cenar pizza si as� uno lo desea.
Al final decid� comenzar a hacer acondicionamiento general en un gimnasio a manera de preparativo para comenzar a hacer alg�n programa de ejercicios (el que fuera). Mientras tanto comenc� a llevar la dieta de la que habla el libro. Ten�a en ese entonces 30 a�os y pesaba 88 kilos (nunca hab�a pesado m�s que eso) .As� pas� 2 meses haciendo pesas (sin un programa) y comiendo de 5 a 6 veces al d�a….y baje 3 kilos.
Despu�s de leer el libro…decid� que comenzar�a el programa al 100%. Son 12 semanas. Se toma uno una foto inicial y al final se toma uno otra y podemos concursar en una competencia que tiene el autor.
Durante las 12 semanas baje 12 kilos. 15 en total desde que comenc� las pesas (5 meses en total).
Ahora tengo 44 a�os. Hace 4 a�os intente nuevamente el reto. El primer mes baje solamente 1 kilo. Me desmotive totalmente. Tanto trabajo (haci�ndome las 6 comidas diarias) y tanto esfuerzo en el gym no me hab�an llevado a ning�n lado. Supongo que el metabolismo no es el mismo a los 30 que a los 40. Frustrado no volv� a intentarlo.
Recomiendo el programa a personas j�venes con sobrepeso. A menos esa es mi experiencia.

Lovely

Well. I am somewhat fascinated.

The beginning is slow. The style is a bit similar to when Anne Rice gets into writing about history - which means better paced than your dry old history book, but... still, not the fastest read.

But at loc 1253 starts the Devil's philodophies, and they are perfectly wonderful.

I've always considered myself an atheist, but perhaps I have been wrong about that.

Couple of my favorite examples from the Philosophies:

"The path of life must be thine own, let not others choose for thee. If ye wish a chance at greatness, follow thine own path. If it should lead to misery, so be it. At least it is a misery of thine own choosing. And remember, ye may always try again.

"If thou findest an inequity, ye must correct it. If thou art witness to an injustice, ye must not stand idle. If ye come upon pain, then give relief. For if the lot of Man is to improve, the seer must be the doer."

There are more... and so many of them dictate the way I already live...

"Thou art stronger than ye can ever know, search for the strength that [d]wells within. It is there. It is waiting. And somewhere out there, someone needs you more than you can ever imagine.

"...Heed not the beliefs, laws and actions of others unless they suit thee. And be prepared to die for this."

It's written in a very King James biblical style - and some reviewers have complaints about this, but I guess I figure if so many read the actual boring bible, then why not this, an alternative look?

I like the way it speaks to the deep centers of my brain, and reminds me to question... cui bono? Who benefits? Sometimes I forget this and find myself blindly following the masses, sleepwalking as it were.

I was surprised to find myself, in the text.

"...And blessed be those who find succor within themselves, for they shall be the insight of the Child, taking strength from the power within and not without. Blessed also be those who fear not God, for they shall be the blood of the Child, and they shall give no sustenance to the minions in the heavens."

Felt a gathering of tears. Had to reflect a bit.

As the narrator says, "...this was not a demonic text...[it's] a book of hope, as a better way to live my life. [And a] warning... we should not follow others without knowing why we do so. We should understand what we believe and why...so there you have it. Now you know. The question is, what will you do?"

If you're not a fan or organized religion, or if you've always felt is if your basic nature sets you apart from society somehow, if you're not all that great at thinking what They tell you to think... give the Devil's Apocrypha a read. You might find yourself at home.

For a long time I had wondered why would God have put the tree of knowledge in the garden if we where not meant to eat of it?. Why did God make such commandments that go contrary to our very nature?. If we have truly been made in the image of God, then he too feels rage, anger, lust, hunger, ect. After reading this book, I have come to view things very differently. I have come to realize that all is not what we have been lead to believe. History is ALWAYS written by the victor and as the victor sees fit, since the victor always wants history to look kindly upon his/her actions. In 325 A.D Constantine became Cristian, and thus decided that he would tell the masses what they should/should not believe. He took from the bible what he felt was not correct and kept what he felt was correct. Now I ask, who is this man to tell me what I should or should not believe in? Who is this man to edit the cannon as HE saw fit? This is what many bible believers do not want to except, the word of their God has been corrupted by man. So now we have to choice what we feel in our harts is the true. The bible speaks very little of the devil and we must ask our self, why I/3 of the angel agreed with the satan? Why do so many religions have the same principal characters? Why is it the if God wanted humanity to life in peace and love, did he separate the tongues in the tower of Bable incident? Why would God fell threaten by humanity working as one?. This book provided answers to this question and more. Many people believe that God gave us free will, but he did not. Jesus said, if they are not with us - they are against us. God said believe in me, love me and no other or you will burn for eternity. This is NOT free will. Please also take the time to really read your own religious books, don't just listen to what others tell you it said, or their personal interpretation of what they believe it read. Take the time and you will see that things are not what they seem. Look to history for more details on who the main characters where and what they could have been like in the time the events to place. Inform your selves.

A Lodging Pioneer of Hospitality

My background is what academia refers to as "clinical" in nature and several years ago, I addressed several classes at the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality & Resort Management at the University of Memphis in Tennessee. Having taught as an adjunct professor for 20 years at three different colleges, I have always been comfortable as both an academic and corporate educator, facilitating more than 3,400 classes and programs.

The classes were interesting and as I was leaving, I spent a few minutes in the small museum type setting that includes some of Wilson's memorabilia. I was never employed at Holiday Inns, but living in Tennessee (then global headquarters for the brand) for more than 15 years certainly brought me into substantial contact with many people who had been. While Wilson was not a traditional hotelier by schooling or experience, he definitely influenced many business practices in franchising, brand support, standards and values.

Displayed in the lobby of the Wilson School of Hospitality & Resort Management at the University of Memphis are what he called his Steps for Success.

#10 included the title of his book: Remember that success requires "Half Luck and Half Brains". He uses his 20 Steps as episodes and illustrations. I found the content of this book to be quite interesting and not the frequent "bragging" that some biographies lean towards. Written by Wilson at age 83, he shares his "better way" of offering affordable lodging in understandable and practical lessons. The book also includes more than 100 photographs of family, business partners and unique scenes in the evolution of Holiday Inns in the days before the industry became involved in heavy mergers and the danger of the industry becoming viewed as a commodity.

Nice book!

Don't know why it is no longer in print. That is why I bought it used which I do not always do. The book I got looked like it was new and I love the cover. The story itself is true and informative though a little jagged (jumps around a bit).

To me, this was a very interesting book, but it would have been nice to know that there were editing problems with the first couple chapters.
